Hurricane Katrina

Noah's Wish cared for a total of 1,974 animals in the three months following hurricane Katrina. A temporary shelter was setup in Slidell, Louisiana within 72 hours after Katrina hit. This was due, in part, to a prior Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Slidell Animal control.

Noah's Wish utilized 875 volunteers, who logged 41,500 hours over a three month period to staff and operate the shelter.

During the time Noah's Wish was mobilized, all the animals in our care remained at the shelter. That is why over 75% of the animals in our shelter were identified by their families. Stray animals were held a minimum of 60 days and, in a good number of cases, 90 days before being placed in foster homes or adopted.
