Noah’s Wish and Habitat Join-Up in Slidell!
Who Are Those People in Blue?
Noah’s Wish volunteers, that’s who!
After Hurricane Katrina, Noah’s Wish volunteers poured into Slidell, Louisiana. They rescued, sheltered and cared for almost 2,000 animals. Now they're back to partner with the East Saint Tammany Habitat for Humanity, to help build homes in Slidell, Louisiana for families still displaced by the 2005 disaster. Volunteers from all over the country will converge in Slidell during the week of February 25, 2008, through March 1st. Everybody is excited and working hard.
In Slidell there are any number of houses still in need of rehabilitation and just as many that need to be rebuilt from the ground up. When the Noah's Wish shelter closed in late 2005, many volunteers felt they had left the job unfinished, and that there was still more they could do to help the community get back on its feet. Turning potential housing into inhabited homes is what Habitat for Humanity does best and Noah's Wish volunteers felt they could provide the needed labor force to help.
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with local people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The dedication of everyone involved, from homeowner, to staff, to volunteers, makes it all happen and Noah’s Wish is proud to be a part of this effort.
Progress reports will be provided daily, as well as pictures from the building site.
The team's first day on the job
Tuesday Day Two:
Leave a group of Noah's Wish volunteers alone for a few hours and they find an animal in need of help. Across the street from the work site are two dogs that didn't have adequate shelter. The group took up a collection and two new dog houses are on their way to the neighbors. Way to go gang.
Everybody was up early to stretch those sore muscles and grab breakfast before they started work.
The group got a tour of the finished product
Wednesday - Day Three of the Build
Day three is also the day the group presented the dog house to the neighbor's across the street from the home under construction. Everyone one was excited, except perhaps the new occupant.
